The Importance of Preparing Your Car

Long-distance car transport is a major undertaking that requires more than just handing over your keys to a driver. Proper preparation is the cornerstone of a damage-free and stress-free shipping experience. Whether you are moving from Delhi to Bangalore or Mumbai to Kolkata, taking a few hours to prep your vehicle can save you days of headache later.

1. Clean Your Car Thoroughly

It might seem counterintuitive to wash a car that's about to be put on an open carrier, but a clean car is essential for a proper pre-shipment inspection. Dirt and grime can hide small scratches, dents, or chips. By washing the exterior, you and the transport driver can accurately document the vehicle's condition before it leaves your driveway.

2. Document Existing Damage

Once the car is clean, take high-resolution photos from every angle. Focus on any existing dings, paint chips, or interior wear. This serves as your 'insurance' in case any new damage occurs during transit. A reputable transporter will also perform their own inspection, but having your own records is vital.

3. Remove Personal Belongings

Most car transport companies in India are not licensed to carry household goods inside the vehicle. Items left in the car can bounce around, causing interior damage, or even be stolen. More importantly, personal items add weight, which can affect the carrier's balance and safety.

4. Check for Leaks and Tire Pressure

Ensure your car isn't leaking any fluids (oil, coolant, etc.). A leaking car can damage other vehicles on the carrier. Also, make sure your tires are properly inflated to ensure the car can be safely loaded and unloaded from the ramp.

5. Keep Only a Quarter Tank of Fuel

A full tank of gas adds significant weight to the vehicle. Transport experts recommend keeping only about 1/4 tank of fuel—just enough to drive it onto the carrier and to a gas station at the destination.
